Read the following passage and get to know the spiders!
Ouch! A Spider Bit Me!
So you spot a brown, hairy, scary spider and let out a terrifying shriek! You run out in panic from the washroom or wherever you spotted that deadly species! Your first impulse is to grab a broom stick, shoe, hanger or even the newspaper to hit it hard! You are the champ having beaten the spider into a pulp. But there was no need to waste all your energy in squashing that harmless spider.
Harmless? Are we talking about a spider? Yes of course! Because spiders unlike other household creepy crawlies are a blessing in disguise. They eat other pests that trouble us like flies, moths, cockroaches and mosquitoes.
There are over 44,000 known kinds of spiders like wolf spiders, huntsman spiders and tarantulas. They are found all over the world except Antarctica. They are unique amongst animals as they spin webs out of silk. The webs trap insects and other prey to be eaten later.
Arachnophobia is the name given to the fear of spiders. However most spiders are totally harmless even though they may look eerie and frightening. The largest tarantula called the Goliath Bird Eating Tarantula is also not dangerous. At the most a tarantula bite is as painful as a bee sting. So next time if you see a spider don’t panic.
